Mrs. Ágnes Gál, former CEO of EGIS, was awarded

Mrs. Ágnes Gál was awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the
Hungarian Republic

On the Prime Minister’s recommendation, Mrs. Ágnes Gál, Chief Executive Officer of EGIS PLC, was granted the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic by the President László Sólyom, to merit her achievements in the development of the Hungarian pharmaceutical industry and to acknowledge her pharmaceutical and executive career of more than three decades.

This great public honor was handed over to Mrs. Ágnes Gál, who retired from the position of EGIS PLC’s Chief Executive Officer on 30 September 2009, by Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai on 26 October 2009.


CEO of Egis received French State Award

Ágnes Gál, the Chief Executive Officer of Egis Pharmaceuticals LTD had the honour of being awarded by Nicolas Sarkozy with the French National Order of Merit in Officer Grade acknowledging her significant contribution to the improvement of the French-Hungarian bilateral relations.
The award was given by the Ambassador of the Republic of France to Hungary.

The French National Order of Merit
The National Order of Merit (Ordre National du Mérite) is one of the highest French state awards beside the Legion of Honour. This is an Order of Chivalry founded on 3 December 1963 by President Charles de Gaulle. This award is in recognition of distinguished civil and military achievements in favour of the French Nation. Foreign nationals may also receive this accolade. It has five grades including Knight, Officer, Commander, Grand Officer and Grand Cross.

Ágnes Gál’s professional life
Ágnes Gál graduated from Budapest University of Economic Sciences Faculty of Foreign Trade. During more than 30 years spent in pharmaceutical industry and management she has been continuously surrounded by success.
From 1992 she acted as the Managing Director of the French-German owned Aventis and its predecessors (Roussel Uclaf, Hoechst Marion Roussel) in Hungary. She considers that experience as a real milestone in her international career. Under her leadership the Hungarian subsidiary of Aventis became a determinant player of the domestic market.
Since 2006 she has been the CEO of Egis PLC whose majority shareholder is the biggest French private pharmaceutical company, Servier.
She lived in France for five years. She speaks English and French fluently.
